But today, we are taking a closer look at some of our most valuable and rare finds.

The kind of pieces that make seasoned collectors and passionate antique lovers feel that unmistakable itch in their fingers.

J.P. Dahl Jensen is one of the great names in Danish porcelain history. He worked as head modeller at Bing & Groendahl from 1897 to 1917, and he is the artist behind this large monkey with tortoise — known by the nickname “The Philosopher”.

Hand-painted by Christian Benjamin Olsen for Royal Copenhagen in 1922, this vase is just as heavy with history as it is... well, extremely heavy in general.

It measures an impressive 50 cm in height and is decorated with a maritime motif of the Royal Yacht Dannebrog and Hejmdal. Underneath, you will find the inscription: Kongeskibet Dannebrog og Hejmdal afsejler fra København c. 24.8.1922 (The Royal Yacht Dannebrog and Hejmdal departs from Copenhagen approx. 24th of August 1922)

With its size, history, and striking motif, this is a vase that needs a little space around it. It would look especially beautiful as a floor vase in the home of a collector, or in any home with a love for Royal Copenhagen, History, the maritime world — or d) all of the above.

The vase was previously priced at 25,000 DKK, but we have temporarily reduced it to 19,995 DKK.

You may have seen this one before, but we are including it here because it is exactly the kind of piece we sometimes see being bought by — or as a gift for — people who love Blue Fluted and already have some plates, cups, or serving pieces in their collection.

When you work in a treasure trove like Danish Porcelain House, you are sometimes asked: What is the most valuable piece you have?

We are constantly adding new pieces to the collection, so the answer can of course change. But for a long time, the answer has been this Royal Copenhagen Christmas plate from 1908, titled Madonna and Child.

And there is a very good reason for that.

The 1908 plate was the very first Christmas plate ever produced by Royal Copenhagen. It marks the beginning of a tradition that is now 118 years old.

At the same time, it is a piece of porcelain that cannot simply be recreated exactly as it was. The moulds for Royal Copenhagen’s Christmas plates have traditionally been destroyed each year after that year’s plates were produced, making the earliest editions extremely rare and especially sought after among collectors.

This plate is priced at 29,995 DKK and, for many collectors of Royal Copenhagen Christmas plates, it is something close to the ultimate final piece.

But of course, the story never truly ends, as the Christmas plates are fortunately still released every year.

In the part of the shop where we keep our dog figurines, this English bulldog towers over many of the others.

At 38 cm in height, it is a true conversation piece — the kind of piece that works beautifully in a home with room for something a little more characterful, artistic, and maximalist.

If you are looking for a piece of porcelain art with humour, aesthetics, history, and plenty of personality, this one certainly calls for attention. Much like a real English bulldog, there is something slightly crooked and stubborn about it, which is exactly what gives it a charm that is hard not to fall for completely.

And then, of course, there is the history.

The bulldog was designed and signed by Knud Kyhn in 1907, when he was only 27 years old. Kyhn is especially known for his well-loved brown stoneware bears — the ones you almost certainly know, at least once you see them — and he later also worked for both Kähler and Bing & Groendahl.

The beautiful bulldog is currently reduced to 9,995 DKK and truly deserves to get out into the world, live a little, and bring joy to its new owner and their guests.
