Dear reader,
We’re already well underway, and as we move closer to my 60th birthday on May 2nd, I’ll continue sharing the things I personally love – and would still choose today.
Further down in this newsletter, you’ll find a selection of our vintage pieces with butterfly motifs, all currently on special birthday offer.
One thing that has followed me for many years – without me really thinking much about it – is butterflies.
It’s only when I look back at the things I truly find beautiful that I realise how often they appear.
|
Something you can’t quite explain
There’s something special about butterflies.
They’re delicate. Ever-changing.
They move between the tangible and something that almost feels otherworldly.
At the same time, a quiet reminder that the simple and the fragile are often the most beautiful. And perhaps that’s exactly why I always return to them.
I’ve never really thought: “I collect things with butterflies.” But when I look at the pieces I love the most, they’re there again and again. Like a quiet thread running through it all.

If you’re curious, I’ve gathered a few pieces from the shop where butterflies appear:

I have a very special glass vase at home. It was once part of our range of hand-blown glass vases.
There’s something about the colour, the shape – and not least the delicate butterflies in the design.
Unfortunately, we no longer have that particular vase, but we still carry a number of beautiful hand-blown pieces, and there’s just something about hand-blown glass when the light catches those beautiful colours.

A few that really stand out to me

The same goes for some of the older Royal Copenhagen vases in Art Nouveau style.
They have a lightness in their form and a calmness in their decoration, where the butterflies add something extra to the overall expression. They’re not inexpensive – far from it. But that naturally reflects what they are.

|
They’re rare.
And when quality and design truly come together as a whole, many people take notice.
From the refined to the more grounded
But it’s not only the classic and rare pieces I’m drawn to. I’m also very fond of Royal Copenhagen’s faience – among them the Diana series with butterflies, created by Nils Thorsson in the 1960s.
There’s a simplicity to the expression that I find truly beautiful. And although it’s a different style from Art Nouveau, there is still a connection.
The same respect for the motif. The same calm in the expression. Just interpreted in a new way.

It doesn’t stop there
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing some of the things I’ve learned along the way – and what I still look for today.
The things I personally love. And what I would choose if I had it in my hands today.
And when we reach my birthday on May 2nd, I’ll finish it all off with a giveaway – so if you’d like to take part, it’s worth following along over the coming weeks – both here and on our Instagram and Facebook (Winner of the giveaway will be drawn randomly from our social media followers).
