Dear reader

Yes, it's true. - Joergen Risager, my father and the man behind DPH Trading, turns 80 years old today! This calls for a celebration!
We celebrate Joergen's 80th birthday by giving an 80% discount to one lucky customer

On the occasion of Joergen's 80th birthday, Joergen has decided that he will draw one lucky winner from among the customers who order online on his birthday (today, February 8, 2023).
The lucky customer will receive an 80% discount on their purchase. It will take place in such a way that all orders are carried out as usual via our website, but when we invoice and withdraw the payment, we will give an 80% discount on the purchase to a randomly selected customer. - This customer will be notified directly on February 9, 2023.

Always get back up...
My father doesn't let anything beat him. He has proven that so many times in his life. - You see, things have not always gone as planned.
When I look back at the many times when something has gone wrong, I have to admit that I have sometimes thought that it is incredible that my father never loses his courage.
Not even a broken back can sway my father...
This summer my father fell with one of his tractors and broke his back. - He underwent a stabilizing back operation, a huge operation with subsequent enormous pain.
He was completely sidelined for some time. - But here, 6 months later, we joke that DPH has got its own gym. Joergen has acquired boxing gloves and a boxing pad, a trampoline, as well as various dumbbells, etc. - DPH's father can be knocked over, but he always gets back up.

Wanted to trade with something that didn’t rot...
There has always been a salesman in my father. As a child he breed rabbits and sold them, and as early as at 18 years old he bought an old dairy and started selling fruit and vegetables.
Unfortunately it didn't go that well for that business. The earnings didn't add up with the spending. My father never said no to a great deal and when it so happens to be about apples or bananas, and one buys 20 boxes but can only sell 8 before they started rotting, the earnings disappear.
So, in 1972, once my father had licked his wounds after his first attempted and failed business adventure with fruits and vegetables, and he once again felt the urge to trade, the goods became something entirely different. - He had the idea of specializing himself and trade with things that could be kept in storage for a long time. The choice ended on plates and the company was named Danish Plate Trading.

10 years later and the ceiling almost came down on our heads...
During a 10-year period, Joergen had, just as he had with the apples and bananas, bought a massive amount of plates and other collectibles. The ones that there wasn’t room for in the store were stacked in the attic, but one day the wallpaper started to come off the wall, and yes, the ceiling simply wasn’t strong enough to carry the thousands of plates that were stacked up there. - The ceiling was literally starting to come down on our heads!
The hunt for a new property began and the choice ended up on a pretty amazing house in the northern part of Odense. In 1982 we made the move to Loekkegravene 49, Odense, Denmark, and we are still here today.
Shortly after we moved to the big, new house, the prices on plates started to fall and the trading of plates was difficult to make a living by. - It was necessary to find something more to trade in and it ended up being Chinese lamps. - We imported old and new vases from China and had them converted into lamps.
This became the start of years selling lighting and lamps.
Here you can see our first exhibition in 1984 of Chinese lamps and neatly placed plates.

The art of limitation is not something Joergen (or myself) possess...
Throughout the years we have bought and sold a lot of wonderful things. And just like my dad, I can have a difficult time saying no when it comes to buying goods at a really cheap price.
For example, in the spring of 2017, when we bought a giant residual stock in Sweden. We had no idea of what we were buying, and it turned out that there were over 140.000 items. - It took us half year to unpack it, and it filled 8 big containers.

Today, we have an unfathomably large stock of fantastic things, both collector's items such as plates, mugs, bells, drops, plaques, etc., decorative objects such as figurines, vases, bowls, candlesticks and other trinkets, tableware and glasses, as well as lamps and lampshades.
Every centimeter in the store and in our warehouses is filled to the brim. - My father is from the generation that doesn't throw anything away, everything can be recycled and therefor has been stored. Even my father's school bag and his recorder (which he never got good at playing) can be found in the stashes. - We are now cleaning up. In the coming time, you will be able to find many fantastic things both in the store, in our sales room, and of course online. DPH Trading is truly worth a visit!

Joergen's schoolbag and recorder can only be found by visiting our offer room in Odense!
