Hello læser
If you, like me, have a preference for ceramics and have looked at our newly re-designed website, you might have come across some fantastic creations by Ellen Malmer and Ivan Weiss. The two artists have many things in common, which is probably also the reason why they have collaborated on the Siena Series, consisting of vases and dishes made on the same forms and in the same color scale.

The Siena Series
Approx. 50 km south of Florence is the city of Siena. Since ancient times, Siena soil has been obtained from here and has been used as a pigment to create a warm-golden color, which is also called Siena. Siena has become the name for this faience series created by Ellen Malmer and Ivan Weiss, which is characterized by its glow and character.

The designer and artist Ellen Malmer
Ellen Malmer has been associated with Royal Copenhagen since 1965, after completing her education at the School of Crafts in Copenhagen, where she graduated from the textile department. Despite her main focus in textiles, Ellen Malmer was employed by Royal Copenhagen as a faience designer immediately after graduating. This has led to many of the faience bowls, dishes and vases, which are known in many Danish homes. You can see some of them below here.

The potter Ivan Weiss
Ivan Weiss is trained at Royal Copenhagen as an overglaze painter and has been associated with the factory for more than 4 decades! He spent two years studying in Japan between 1970-1972 and then returned to Royal Copenhagen in 1973. This has resulted in many great and fantastic vases and dishes, which have a Japanese touch and have their own special charm. Just take a look here.
