Some of the best Danish porcelain can offer are the figurines that were produced at the factory that Dahl Jensen established. Jens Peter Dahl Jensen is one of the best artists in porcelain figurines that Denmark has had. His probably best-known work is the set Optimist and Pessimist, which has adorned many homes through the years.

 

Dahl Jensen was originally a model master at Bing & Grondahl, but later he opened his own factory in 1925 under his own name. He opened it because he wanted to produce figurines in an extra good quality. Among other things, it is seen that Dahl Jensen underglaze figures have more color than other underglaze figures.

 

 

 

Dahl Jensen is unique in that the figurines were initially not sold and marketed primarily in Denmark but in the USA. This creates the situation that Dahl Jensen is better known in the USA than in Denmark. It was only later that the figurines were also marketed in Europe and Denmark. Therefore, Dahl Jensen figurines are also more widespread in the United States than in Denmark. This had the effect that Dahl Jensen figurines in trade are often sold to the USA, which is why they are becoming more rare in Denmark.

 

Dahl Jensen himself died in 1960, but the factory continued under the management of his grandchildren until 1985, when it closed. Unlike other factories, the Dahl Jensen brand was not sold and all the molds were destroyed, so the figurines cannot be reproduced, as Dahl Jensen's grandchildren did not want the quality of their grandfather's figurines to deteriorate under new owners. So Dahl Jensen figurines are and will be of particularly good quality, which has not been nor will be degraded.
